An Epic worth reading

The storyline in "Defenders of the Breach" caught my attention from the start. Once I started reading it, I found it difficult to put down. Although the characters in the story are fictional, they paint a picture of a reality that is truer than life. As a follower of Christ, the book gave me a greater awareness of the unseen world around me, as well as a renewed sense of the value of prayer. The only problem I had with the book was that I found myself hungry for more; wanting to know what happens next in the lives of the characters I had become so fond of. Hopefully the author will consider a sequel.

Incredible

This book caught my attention from the very beginning and held it the entire time. Although the book's storyline is fantasy based, the messages embedded in the story are absolutely true and applicable to current time. Each character and scene is so eloquently detailed and yet not overdone to the point of losing sight of the story's message. One cannot help but get involved with the book because it's filled with adventure, laughter, pain, suffering, and most of all connectiveness to ourselves. There are scenes in the book when you are reading about one or more of the characters being faced with a challenge and wondered how I would deal with such a situation if I were faced with it. The spiritual challenges being faced are very real and need to be taken seriously. I love all of the characters, however, I really love Lena and Choppa for very different reasons. Great job Doug! Now hurry up with the next one. :-)

A GREAT book to read!!

My name is Parker and I am 12 years old. This is one of the best books I have ever read. If you are looking for an exciting book to read -- choose this one for sure! The characters are expertly developed and struggle with real life problems in a mythical setting. Non-stop action keeps you on your toes and at the edge of your seat -- waiting for the next battle. Fun-filled with suspense and mystery mixed in, you'll never want to put this one down! We've already purchased several copies for our friends and donated one to the school library. I made my own staff to imitate the main character and practice with it daily.

Hurray for Defenders!

I read this book shortly after its release. I loved it. I could relate to the main character, Cyle. He wanted to be "somebody", and make a difference in the world, yet he was full of fear, lacked confidence and felt he had neither skill nor opportunity. Cyle is then thrust into action and onto a track he fantasized being on, yet now finds that reality is not as romantic as his daydreams. He learns about himself, his abilities and his commitment while on his journey to save his beloved king and his home in the kingdom of Talinor. I thought the characters developed nicely and found them to be likeable and believable. Doug does a great job in describing the scenes and I could see in my mind's eye the many situations they were in whether they were walking the streets of Talinor, running through the forest or fighting the enemy. I loved Lena, the intercessor. I admired her commitment to prayer, to The Ancient of Days, and to Talinor. Even in the face of adversity she continued to do what she knew was right and went so far as to break the law to save Talinor and ultimately the entire kingdom. My only complaints: it seems that the editing was forgotten toward the end of the book, which made it a little more difficult to read, but mostly, I was sad to see the story end. I really wanted to spend more time with Cyle, Lena, Bixby and the others I had come to know and love in Talinor.

Great book for all ages.....

My 11 yr old said it's the best book he's ever read. Full of action and adventure with many surprises, amazing creatures and characters. Lots of details making it full of life.
