What a gift the for those us no longer in New Orleans and Louisiana. Whether part of the diaspora created by Katrina or simply a transplanted Bayou State soul longing for home, the Crescent City Farmers Market Cookbook brings together the amazing farmers and producers of one of Louisiana's greatest gift- its wonderful food. Crescent City Farmers Market Delivers

This beautifully photographed book conjures up all the flavors of New Orleans. The recipes are easy to follow and Poppy Tooker's lively descriptions of the market, the vendors, the chefs and the food provide endless conversation for your dinner table. This book is a must have for anyone who enjoys the vibrant cuisine of New Orleans.

Just like being there

Poppy Tooker makes New Orleans beloved Crescent City Farmers Market come alive. The compelling and provoking stories of the markets farmers, fishers and producers combined with the recipes of some of New Orleans (and the worlds) most acclaimed chefs combines in a cultural expression unlike any other. From the most classic of Creole dishes to the more expressive culinary creations, one could get the flavor of New Orleans from just reading let alone cooking from this book. Tooker is obviously passionate about her city, subjects, the market, and the foods of the most distinct products and cuisine our country and maybe the universe has to offer.

Crescent City Rave

Having had the good fortune to shop the Crescent City Farmers Market during a trip to New Orleans, I was impressed by the strong sense of community that radiated from both the farmers and the shoppers. Thanks to dedicated Crescent City Farmers Market volunteers, who helped this city institution to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of Hurricane Katrina, the market revived and restored a piece of New Orleans' soul. As you read the individual stories of farms and families, you realize the bond between humans is stronger than any storm, and that their recipes are a healing balm and the shining promise of renewal. Even better, each recipe I've tried is doggone good. A big cheer for Poppy Tooker, who pulled it all together.

What New Orleans food is all about

Great insight into what makes New Orleans food the greatly loved and widely appreciated commodity that it is. The book charts the substantial effort expended to insure that future generations will have the opportunity to enjoy this unique cuisine. The well selected recipes are a strong closing argument to the thesis of the book.
