"Just deal with it" is no longer a requirement

My first son had "colic" and we were told to "just deal with it" and we did for 4 long months. When my 2nd son was born and he started acting the same way (crying in pain and pulling away from the breast when nursing, hiccuping all the time, projectile vomiting) our pediatrician diagnosed him with reflux and milk and soy protein intolerance. Through some other moms dealing with the same thing, I came across Colic Solved. Oh, how I wish I had had this book with my first!!! Dr. V provides so much great information and he obviously understands what we parents are going through. I am taking this book to the pediatrician with me today so that he can recommend it to any other patients who are diagnosed with reflux.

A Wonderful Book

Both my daughters suffered from infant GERD (acid reflux disease). Although they are both past their infant GERD (2 1/2+ & 18 months) I still found this book to be very helpful. I was lucky to have a wonderful Pediatrician and they are both seeing a specialist. But I still learned a lot from this book and I have recommended it to others. This book also gave me the extra confidence to trial my girls off their medication recently. And when my oldest showed symptoms of GERD again within 1 week of a lowered dose, I knew she needed her medication again. Dr. Vartabedian gives a lot of information in very easy to understand terms. I do wish I had this book when my oldest was an infant. It helped validate my thoughts and feelings and would have been very valuable to me during a very hard time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's baby suffers or has suffered from reflux or "colicy" behavior.

Must have if your baby is diagnosed with "colic"

This book is a must have. I have a 4.5 month old baby who was diagnosed with colic since week 1. I had tried everything and had gone to 6 different pediatricians whose only answer was Reflux. Reflux medicines didn't work, we kept changing and experimenting but nothing worked, I could feel my baby was in great pain. By reading the book it looks like I finally have a diagnosis as my baby might be allergic to the proteins in cow's milk. The book also teaches you to be patient as treatments for this kind of problems usually take weeks to take effect. My baby is now doing better and it's all thanks to this book. I wish I had read it at least 3 months ago.

Just What I Needed!!

After hours of searching for answers about "colic" and acid reflux I found relief for much of the anxiety I have been suffering in this book. As a parent I felt helpless and didn't know what to do about my daughter's reflux - she cries often during feeding and doesn't seem to be happy. I thought maybe it was just me and perhaps this was happening because I didn't shush her right or hold her properly. Dr. V busted many myths on "colic" and gave a well structured look at gastrointestinal problems that babies can encounter, which may be the reason for discomfort and an unhappy baby. From diagnosis through treatment I found answers to anything from what questions I should be asking my pediatrician to what options might be available down the road if we need to see a gastroenterologist. I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels that their baby has reflux or a handful of other GI problems. It brings both answers and comfort in knowing from a truly knowledgable source what kind of care the condition might require for a happy baby.

Finally some answers!

With a five month old that seems to be in physical pain, crying real tears frequently, arching his back, feeding all of the time and gaining weight rapidly I know something isn't quite right. He's rarely happy, even after a feeding. Our doctor said he seems to be colicky, game me some literature and sent us home. I've since read Colic Solved and know something needs to be done. He has many of the symptoms of acid reflux, a gray-zone baby, and now I feel like I have the tools and knowledge to help my son feel better. The book is very easy to read, and Dr. V puts all of the medical-ease into a layperson's terms. It's been invaluable as a resource in understanding what my son is going through right now. The book also has a chapter on things you can try at home while you're in the process of dealing with doctors and waiting for answers. These are very helpful and easy to implement. I also have a 2 1/2 year old who does have acid reflux and dysphagia. The book has also given me great insight into what he went through as a "colicky" baby. He wasn't diagnosed with reflux or dysphagia until he was 15 months old - if only we'd had this book then we could have prevented some of his discomfort and probably some of his swallowing difficulties. Knowing what I know now from Colic Solved, I know without a doubt that something has to be done to get my 5 week old some comfort. [...]. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a fussy infant!
