Great resource for elementary grades

I recently purchased the Children's Illustrated Thesaurus for my 2nd grader. I was very impressed with the book which offers several nice features in addition to typical thesaurus items (header words at the top of the pages, parts of speech, definitions, example sentence for headwords, synonyms, and opposites). Some of the extras included a different colored band at the top of the page for each letter making it easy for the child to find a word they are looking for (ie. letter A words appear in the blue section; letter B words in the green section, etc.) There is a good sampling of words given for each alphabet letter. There are generally 2-4 synonyms given for each headword (the word you look up) and example sentences for each synonym as well. There are also some headwords that are featured in the book by offering related words with multiple illustrations. For example, the headword fruit gives illustrations of apples, oranges, bananas, strawberries, grapes, pineapple, pears, and peaches. The colors and illustrations used throughout the book are charming and eye catching. Overall, I would recommend this as a resource.

Stretching young writers

I really like this Thesaurus and bought ten of them for work with young writers. I like the clear definitions and sample sentences. I am trying to increase the vocabulary of young writers who have English as a second language and I believe this book will help.I wish I had a product this good to increase my vocabulary in Spanish (my target language)!
