I cannot speak for others, but...

This little book managed to do what so many other people and things seemed unable to do - clearly and simply point out where I was going wrong in my walk of life. "Rather by chance" (like God plays dice with the universe, right?) I opened to a section that directed me to the book of Hebrews - chapter 3, verse 13. That was all it took. I have been unable to find this remarkable book in stores and so I have been surprised and panicked, having given the only copy I ever bought to my brother. I can think of few books that speak to the modern mind so well and yet convey the message so clearly. Get it. Read it. Love it. Live it. Second (I think, anyway) to The Bible only.

Practical advice for living a life of faith

With its bright yellow cover and bold type, one might confuse Checklist for Life with another bright yellow book--one that is selling like hotcakes in bookstores across the country: Worst-Case Scenarios. But unlike that humorous book, Checklist for Life is all about real life, as explored from a perspective of faith.The topics in this book cover everything from dealing with anxiety to discovering joy. Appropriate and thought-provoking quotataions and scripture passages highlight the well-written text, but it's the practical "I Will" and "Things to Do" sections are what make this different than a typical devotional or inspirational book. Each of these sections give practical suggestions for putting into practice the wisdom from the main text. Even if the reader only follows through on one or two of the ideas here, he or she will be taking real steps toward relational, emotional, and spiritual growth.Only two small quibbles. The title suggests a book that offers an organized checklist for all of life's many trials. However, with just 66 topics, not every life situation is covered here. (There are three other books in the series, however, targeted specifically for Men, Women, and Teens.) And then there's the subtitle: "The Ultimate Handbook". It seems a bit over-the-top--but I suppose that's what marketing folks get paid for. Nevertheless, once a reader dives into Checklist for Life, he or she will soon discover that this is more than a throwaway read. Recommended for new Christians and those far along in their faith as well. The high quality production makes it a great gift too.
