Based on the novel “Castle Keep” by William Eastlake. Screenplay by Daniel Taradash and David Raufiel. Directed by Sydney Pollack.
Starts with a lot of ooh-oo background music to set the mood. Lots of artsy shots of land and women. The movie gets stranger as it progresses.
The subtitles are too lazy to translate and say (speaking German, speaking French). Wait, did I see someone speaking English?
“Corporal Clearboy has this thing about Volkswagen. Why doesn’t he see a doctor about it?”
“You cannot save anything by giving it to the Germans. If you give them anything, you have to give them everything.”
"Lay on, Macduff, and dam-n'd be him that first cries, 'Hold, enough!'". Macbeth, Act 5, Scene 8.
Later, the whole story plays out again with the ISIS terrorist militant group that has seized control of large areas of the Middle East, destroying history.
I am sure that this movie was designed to satisfy some sort of unique perspective or perversion, but it eludes me.
