Brothers Three A short story about Three Brothers, Dean, Allen and Gene, the sons of John and Melissa McMahan. The brothers were determined they were not going to be farmers like their parents, grandparents and great grandparents. They wanted more cattle and lots of them. If that meant leaving Iowa to get them then that is what they were going to do. The McMahan family came to the U.S. from Leinster, Ireland in the year of 1775 and settled in the area that today is southern Iowa. The McMahan's had settled the area before they were states and after four generations of McMahan's they had accumulated a vast amount of land which created an empire that was the envy of the Midwest. John McMahan controlled over 11,000 acres of some of the richest crop and grazing land in the world. He was a strong-willed farmer that was determined to build and grow what was handed down to him. His three boys wanted more cattle, they knew South Texas and old Mexico had cattle and that is where they planned to go to get them, this would be their contribution to the McMahan empire.
