Bobo and the Owl introduces the reader to a five-member family of dogs, English Pointers, living on a mid-size, fairly isolated ranch in the Rocky Mountains. One of their number, Beauregard (called Bobo), befriends a family of owls and, with the assistance of Oscar, the head of the owl family, engages in play, hunting, and rescuing human family members from danger. Bobo is assisted in many his efforts by his sister Beya, his uncle Aramis, his father Athos, and his brother Bosworth. Of the Pointer family, Bobo is the most curious and, after observing the owl family in their nest and studying its habits, decides, with Beya, that they and the owls can learn to communicate. In due course, the ability for the dogs and the owls to speak with each other affords them many opportunities for adventure.
