He's Black. He Wore the Blue. He is Solid Gold

The tag line for his book is, “Life doesn’t always stick to the plan.” So many single factors came into play in David Daniels’ life. He worked hard on those things that he could change, and even harder on the ones that he could not have changed – the hearts and minds of the predominantly white police force in a community where whites and blacks represent about 35% each with a population of about 100,000-120,000. During his career in the Bridgeport Police Force he learned firsthand the dark realities of racial hatred and injustice as he strove to stay the course on the force. His saving grace was his faith - he had a strong moral compass. He also had a love for the less represented in his community and while working hard to be the best on the force, he committed himself to being the light in his community. David writes as if he were speaking directly to you. It would hard to read this book and not get caught up in the emotional side of his story. At times, I had to put the book down and walk away. So sad as to the why of so much hatred. And… a pervasive herd mentality grew with the offending officers…them against him! If one officer thought of some retaliatory action – others easily joined in – right or wrong, but mostly very wrong. Still, he persevered in work and in his community, where after retirement, he could solely focus on the positives and move forward to make the kind of difference in people’s lives that God intended for him. He was refined in the refiner’s fire. Though he is Black, and he wore the Blue, he is solid Gold.
