A must-read!

When you say you love someone, do you think about what that means? Do you even know what love is? I thought I knew pretty well how to love, but through this book Shannon showed me that I was wrong. We cannot learn to truly love others until we fall at Jesus' feet in worship and allow His pure, perfect love first of all to fill our own hearts and then to flow through us. Shannon is an amazing lady; please read this book and let her give you a glimpse of what it means to love your family and friends and, most of all, your Saviour.

Great Read!

This book takes a very honest look at a very tough topic. Shannon Kubiak Primicerio does an excellent job at describing what love is, why we struggle with it so much and how we can become better at it every day. This is a must read not only for teen girls, but for any Christian (or person) looking to become more loving! I highly recommend it.

For Girls from 10 to 100

Jesus commands His followers to love one another. This seems that it should be a simple thing, but my experience is that it is one of His harder commands and I am never able to keep it consistently. I remember that it was especially hard during those stressful teen and young adult years and even now with certain `unlovable' people. Author, Primacerio talks about those times and uses examples from her own experience to effectively guide girls toward learning to love like Jesus. Her writing is completely biblically based, often using Bible stories to make her point. She compares these to modern day situations that most of us can easily identify with. "Being a Girl Who Loves" is short - only 170 pages - and easy to read. Each chapter is a good length for small group study or daily individual reading. Ms Primacerio writes in a very honest and straightforward way, much like a girl having a chat with her friends. At the end of each chapter are five questions, designed to make the reader think a little bit harder about the subject. There are also some practical suggestions on how to put love into practice. I liked this feature because it gave me a chance to internalize valuable content before skipping ahead to the next chapter. In the Epilog, Shannon writes, "If we love correctly - meaning, love like Jesus loves - we will experience victory in our lives, and we will witness it in the lives of others. We will come to understand that love is not an emotion, but a choice - and perhaps the greatest choice we can ever make in our lives." Although it is written with teenaged girls in mind, I wouldn't limit this book's scope. I recommend it for any girl, aged 10 to 100. Mothers and grandmothers may want to read it with their daughters. I found many important reminders that are relevant in my own life and I think "Being a Girl Who Loves" is worthwhile reading for anyone who is serious about making the choice to fulfill Jesus' command.

What is love? Shannon Kubiak Primicerio, author of Being A Girl Who Loves: Learning to Love Like Jesus contrasts the cultural definitions of love with the biblical definition of love. The author invites us to think about what love is, why we should love, whom we should love and how we should express that love. She makes her case through personal stories and biblical teaching and follows up by providing thought-provoking questions and personal call-to-action suggestions. The author proclaims that we are being destroyed by people who claim we do not need God and the sadness of that statement is that those people are rejecting love. She believes that we have become a society that treats all faiths as equal and make God what we want Him to be and therefore make love what we want it to be. The book's is that it is not about us. It is about how we love from a biblical perspective. It is the gentle love and the tough love, the giving and taking, being needed and needing others. Everyone reading this book will have something that 'speaks' to them. For me it was loving the unlovable and being the unlovable. It gave me pause and I've been thinking about the subject (and working on changing) a lot since reading the book. It is one that will hold a special place in my personal library. Armchair Interviews says that Being a Girl Who Loves: Learning to Love Like Jesus is thought provoking and demands to be read over time and then it calls to be referred to again and again. This is a book, for all people, not just girls.
