Fascinating account of a quickly fading part of our history

Life alone for months in a remote lighthouse is fast becoming a fading part of our history. Because one of the keepers talked about in this book was a great uncle, it was doubly fascinating to me and my family.

An outstanding contribution

Part I of the book (Lighthouse Basics) deals with such questions as why the lighthouses were built, what they look (or looked) like, who kept them, and how they worked. It then goes on to describe more than 60 lighthouses, many of which disappeared long ago. The book contains a large number of old photos depicting the lighthouses as well as people associated with them, along with historical notes and anecdotes. A truly outstanding contribution to the history of lighthouses in Canada.
