The Dairy Of Clotee, A Slave Girl

I rated this book 5 stars because if you read this this you can learn a lot about African American were treated and there was a lot of racism back then when there was slavery. Clotee is a slave and she is a fanner when the master's son learns, slaves don't learn how to read because they would send message to the underground railroad people to help them get their freedom write but Clotee does and she tries to not get caught. And some try to risk their life for freedom.My favorite part is when the slaves try to get their freedom.I'm worried when I read this part because they have to not get caught and make it across the river to the other side. The master never taught the slaves how to swim because they could swim to the other side to be free but they still have to go with the underground railroad conductor. But at the same time I read it I was excited because I wanted to know if they would make it or not.It was very hard to be African American back then because you were a slave and some times separated from your family. Willam, the master's son,likes Clotee and he doesn't tell his dad about anything she does or command her to do stuff because they're like best friends. A Picture of Freedom: A Exellent Diary of a Slave Girl

This book is about Clotee, who is a 12 years old slave girl in Belmont Plantation, Virginia. She taught herself how to read and write. Her mom was sold to other plantation and died when she was young. Clotee grew by Aunt Tee and Uncle Heb. Her friends were Hince, spicy and Wook. Wook was killed when she tried to runaway. Clotee met Mr. Harms who was an abolitionist on the Underground Railroad. She wanted to be an abolitionist too. In the book, Clotee shares her feelings, experiences and thoughts about slavery. She describes her life on the plantation and talks about the Underground Railroad. I liked this book because it gave me a window onto the live of slaves in 1859. The details were very vivid. I also liked this book because it taught the lesson that if a person has a goal ad dream, he/she should go for it and they will reach it. Another reason that I liked this book is it showed me how terrible slavery was an how wrong it was. I recommend this book to any teenager who is studying the U.S. Civil War or slavery.

A Great and Very Interesting Book!

This book is about a slave girl who tells what it was like to be a slave.It made me understand more about the torture that they went through. If you are interested about slavery, then this historical fiction book is just for you.
