I read this book years ago, and it still haunts me. If you love anything Irish, are curious about life in the not too distant past, this book is for you. It's too bad it didn't get the credit it deserved when it came out. I won't bore you with a plot rehash, as that is summarized above, but I found the characters to be realistic. The story remains interesting as it follows the life of a man who cannot avoid the lot to which he was born.
