Best Spanish/English Dictionary I've Found So Far

I searched through a lot of Spanish/English dictionaries at the bookstore, trying to find one that includes comprehensible phonetic spellings (including marks to indicate which syllable is emphasized) for the Spanish word entries. This dictionary met that criterion. After using this dictionary for a while, I've come to appreciate other design strengths as well, including: - the cover is a nice flexible vinyl material that seems to be very durable, - the size of the book is perfect for portability (not too small though), - the word entries are in blue, while the definitions are in black (and are indented), making the entries stick out and easy to find, - the tops of the Spanish/English section pages are blue, while the tops of the English/Spanish section pages are gray, making the sections easy to locate, and - there is a section on verb conjugation (including irregular verbs). I think I'm going to buy another one of these to keep at work or in my car.

Great for students

I bought three copies. This dictionary is great for students who are studying Spanish. The cover is very durable. I like the color text, which is easy for me to find the word I am looking for. The dictionary is quite thin, especially considering it has 640 pages. The publisher must use a special paper to make the dictionary portable. A high quality dictionary with a reasonable price.

Smaller and just as good!!!

The Velazquez World Wide Spanish English Dictionary, is specifically designed for someone on the go. It has more words than dictionries of its similar size like the Larousse and best of all its size is a lot better. Its text is not small, but I belive it is the high quailty thin paper they use, which makes the dictioanry light weight and easy to carry. I would defifnitely recomend this dictioanry beceause it has the same quality of lexicography as its long respected brother the Velazquez Spanish and English Dictionary. From what I understand this one is guided more towards the use of a middle and high school students. I say even a college student can use it in his lower level courses. IDEAL FOR A STUDENT

The Absolute Best Traveler Spanish English Dictionary

The hardback 2,016 page The New Velázquez Spanish And English Dictionary is the best dictionary that I've ever seen. If you're a scholar or a serious student of the Spanish language, this is the dictionary to have. Unfortunately, it's too BIG and too HEAVY for me to carry around. Instead, I prefer a more practical dictionary that I can use in my travels AND studies. When I found the compact Velázquez World Wide Spanish English Dictionary, my prayers were answered. A dictionary that is perfect for learning and studying Spanish AND the right size for traveling. The most useful feature about the Velázquez dictionary is its very understandable and simple Spanish pronunciation guide. For example, if you saw the word sequía (drought, thirst, dryness), you might think that it's pronounced like the tree sequoia. The Velázquez dictionary shows that it's pronounced "se kë á." This type of Spanish pronunciation guide is missing in many travelers dictionary or it's badly done. In addition to providing a pronunciation guide for each Spanish word, there's also a more detail section that gives an explanation of the sounds of Spanish pronunciation. Other useful features are: Conjugation of Spanish Verbs Traveler's Conversation Guide and General Phrases Weights and Measures Monetary Units A durable cover and binding means this dictionary will take abuse and survive heavy use. The size of the print and the two tone colors (blue for the word and black for the definition) makes it easier to read.
