A book that should be required reading for American school children

When France agreed to take the American side in the American Revolutionary War, it guaranteed that the British could not win a complete victory that would retain the American colonies as they were. However, that did not mean that a negotiated settlement after several more years of destructive war would be settled on. The defeat of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown was the final action that assured complete independence from Great Britain. The significance of the victory of the American General Washington and the French general Rochambeau over the British at Yorktown is something that all American school children should learn. Over the last several years, the French opposition to the American invasion of Iraq has led to a lot of juvenile and idiotic deriding of French military prowess in the United States. It is important to let young people know that French military valor was a significant component in the independence of the United States. This book is an excellent way for students to learn about this event.
