Daughter loves the series

She’s been reading them at school and I’ve been trying to get her the whole collection for home. Have to buy another copy, they stick their inventory labels on the spines, the Unfortunate Event series have a thin paper binding, which tore when we tried removing the sticker.

Orphans endure misery -- darkly hilarious!

The three Baudelaire orphans are clearly facing a horrific experience in the second entry of this side-splitting saga; however, you can read this book without having read any of the others in the series. It stands on its own. This title was actually my introduction to the Lemony Snicket series about the Baudelaire orphans -- I got it from a Goodwill Store for a dime. I began reading it in a hospital waiting room (a pal was struggling through a stress test there) and I soon had every soul in the room roaring with laughter as I related what was going on in this bizarre tale. The nurses wanted me to come back every day and read to their client families from the "A Series of Unfortunate Events" saga, of which this is but one entry. If you wanted to start at the beginning, this is the first book: A Series of Unfortunate Events #1: The Bad Beginning: Or, Orphans!. It's tough to believe that this story was actually written for any other people than adults. Kids might read it wide-eyed but, for adults, the tale takes on an entirely different ambiance. The story is that the Baudelaire orphans (to whom all bad things happen) have been taken to a new foster parent, Dr. Montgomery Montgomery, a wacky herpetologist. They are transported to the site by Mr. Poe, their sickly fiduciary guardian and dedicated watchdog over the orphans' inheritance (which is considerable.) The evil Count Olaf, of whom they have just recently managed to rid themselves, is out again to steal the orphans' money. Dr. Montgomery wants to take the kids for an expedition to Peru to trap snakes which is fine with the orphans as well as with Mr. Poe. Dr. Mongomery's assistant suddenly leaves so the doctor is forced into a quick hire of another assistant. And who does it turn out to be? A crudely-disguised Count Olaf!!! Things go downhill for the orphans (and for Dr. Montgomery) from there. I read three books per week, everything from "War and Peace" to "The Trolley Car Family" and this series falls into my top five percent of all-time personal favorites. You can read the entire story over the course of a single evening (191 pages in the "Scholastic" edition) and I highly recommend that you do so if you're up for a great laugh.

That Crazy lemony Snicket is at it again

Well, well, well look what we got here a book by Lemony Snicket called The Reptile Room. It takes place during the present time at Hazy Harbor in the town of Fedia. In the beginning of the book the Baudelaire children had a accident happen to there parents that they will never see again. The Baudelaire children move in with their uncle who is a scientist, who studies the world's deadliest snakes. The next day they find him dead in a snake's cage with two puncture wounds in his neck. Count Olaf there new guardian is trying to steal all the money that the kids uncle has. Then the Baudelaire kids came up with a plan to get Count Olaf arrested. If you wont to see how Count Olaf gets all the money, or will he even get close to the money.

One of the Best in the Series.

This is one of the best books in the series. In the second book in the series, the Bauldelaires have to live with their Uncle Monty. Later in the story, the childeren get news that they are going to Peru! They are very excited.Before they go they meet up with Uncle Monty partener, Stephano. They relized right away he is the evil Count Olaf! Later, UNCLE MONTY IS DEAD. They know that Stephano had done it. Mr.Poe(a banker) does not believe he is Count Olaf. The Bauldelaires need to find away to prove he is Count Olaf.

Woe woe misery and woe

And on we move to the second book in the classic Series of Unfortunate Events. If you've stumbled onto the Lemony Snicket series by chance, I wouldn't necessarily command you to read the first book before this, the second. But you'd probably wish to do so yourself. Following the further adventures of the unfortunate Baudelaire orphans, we find our intrepid trio finally living with a relative they've grown to love. Uncle Monty (as he prefers to be called) is a herpetologist of the finest pedigree, and he offers the siblings the first real home they've had in a while. Unfortunately, misery continues to dog them in the form of the evil Count Olaf. Donning one of his many disguises, Olaf does his darndest, yet again, to get his oily hands on the Baudelaire fortune. And so forth.One of the finest books in the series, no question. And, perhaps, one of the saddest. After all, Uncle Monty is one of the few guardians with whom the orphans feel a real kinship. Snicket does a lovely job displaying their affection for him which simultaneously not making you too too terribly unhappy when that joyful confluence must break apart. Happiness is not in store for the Baudelairs for some time now. We shouldn't be wishing it too soon. Still, Uncle Monty's exit is a real blow to the series in that you really do come to like him before his removal from the book. Just the same, there's plenty to love. I, myself, was quite taken with the movie, "Zombies In the Snow", that the Baudelaires watch with heavy hearts at one point in the proceedings. Hollywood should take note - "Zombies In the Snow" may be the next big storyline to hit!For happy book involving ponies, locate one of the bazillion pony books out there. For misery, delightful redundancy, and a truly gross villain I direct your attention to Snicket's latest. Tis a wonderful read for the whole gosh-darn family (though he'd be loathe to say so himself).

When Uncle Monty tells the children that they will be going on an expedition to study snakes they get even more riled up. But Uncle Monty's assistant mysteriously disappears so he hires a replacement. And guess who this is- Count Olaf. And he has a plan to get our favorite trio like never before.
