Horrible language, incredibly mature content

The outsiders was a big hit and we hoped this book would be as well written. We were so wrong. The language is horrible right off the bat. The content is incredibly mature and we cannot recommend that anyone under the age of 18 read this book. Within the first chapter an underage boy is discussing trading inappropriate favors for cigarettes. Very disheartening since the outsiders did a pretty good job of staying within reason.

Taming the Star Runner

This was an excellent book! I usually don't read S.E. Hinton but I picked it up because I love books about city kids going to the country. It's about a troubled youth named Travis who is sent to his uncle's ranch in Oklahoma after the attempted murder of his step father. After a rocky start, Travis meets a girl named Casey down at his uncle's barn. Casey's got this crazy horse, the Star Runner, that she shows in jumping. I really loved the characters. They were pretty typical S.E. Hinton, which is not bad. They seemed so real, especially the relationship between Travis and Casey. I thought it was really funny, the way that Travis dealt with the horses (and his comical cat Motorboat). The book was also very serious at times, dealing with a lot of teen issues. I loved the fact that Travis was a writer. All in all, a great book!

Taming the Star Runner

"Taming the Star Runner" was awesome! I loved every minute of it, even if it wasn't challenging or long. To make it longer would have dragged it out too much. The plot was interesting (especially since it was about horses! ) I first read "The Outsiders" in school and fell in love with S. E. Hinton's books. I couldn't never even imagine trying to get a book published if I was 16! I did notice alot of similarities between the two books (same quotes and character portrayl, things like that). I highly recommend this book!

Taming The Star Runner

Taming the Star RunnerThis was the best story I have ever read. If I had to choose from a rating of 1-10, "Taming the Star Runner", would be a 10. I have always wanted to live on a farm. I thought this book had alot of emotional ups and downs. I like how a bad, non-emotional, punk, turns into a caring, emotional, young man. There was a little bit of everything in the story. There was love, anger, sadness, and happiness. It gave me a good lesson on drinking and its consequences. It really shows me what a bad stepfather is like. My cousin's stepfather is no where near as bad as Stan. It taught me to be sure to choose the right friends and the right decisions in life. Taming the Star Runner was the best book I have ever read.
