Great history curriculum

My daughter read most of this series in 8th grade as her home-school history text. She really enjoyed it. It sparked a deeper interest in history for her. I have just bought the first four books which we were missing so that my 7th and 9th graders can read the whole series in this next school year. I think these books tell the history in more of a story form and go into more detail than regular textbooks. That is what makes it so interesting for students.

Wonderful History of Us Companion

The teaching guide is a wonderful companion to the History of Us book. It enables the teacher to get the "Big Idea" across to the students, utilizing critical thinking, rather than looking for the memorization of facts.

cool book

I was just replacing my daughter's textbook from school (it met with an unfortunate end!) but I got hooked reading this book. Fascinating, I don't doubt the entire series is just as good.

Great for home schooling

I think that this book has been a life saver for our homeschool history needs. It is written at a level my 5th grader understands and sparks many conversations that I had not expected to have until high school history. It has sparked his interest to learn more about the people and places of history. I love the shorter sentences and all of the thinking questions. Even the chapters are short so we can take one step at a time. It defines words that he would have asked about in the margin and gives great pronunciations to difficult words and people's names. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read history with their child

Homeschooling Dream

Joy Hakim's entire series is a homeschoolers dream. The books are written so well and the pictures are so nice that interest is kept by both student and teacher.
