Good book

This is one of the best books in the series not written by the original author, Arthur, at least from the books I've read (1-17), for moments there it seemed a genuine Arthur original. There are some spooky moments and also action, and the plot revolves around a secret cult. Also there's a girl in the story as a main character which is the first time it happens in the series so far, if I remember correctly.

Classic Three Investigators!

I read these books to my 10 year old son and he absolutely loves them. The characters are great and all the books have the right blend of "spooky" happenings and suspense. Lots of creeping around at night. This one has a secret society with mysterious rituals. Fun all around for the mystery lover! I love how the series is set in the Los Angeles area in its Hitchock heydey. All the place and street names add a nostalgic mood. Plus as you read the series, you get to know and love the characters of the three investigators, Jupiter Jones, Pete Crenshaw and Bob Andrews along with all the characters at the Jones Salvage yard - Aunt Mathilda, the Bavarian brothers Hans and Konrad.

Reunion with friends of my childhood

It's been over twenty years since I last read a book of this series. My youngest son handed it to me to read, and I must say that I enjoyed it immensely. It was great to be reunited with the brilliant Jupiter Jones, the resilient Peter Crenshaw, and the tough Bob Andrews (the 3 Investigators). For all of my enjoyment why did I give it only 4 stars? Well, I've progressed to Agatha Christie, Leslie Charteris, Rex Stout, et al, in my adult years and, even though thoroughly enjoying reminiscing with this book, it still remains geared for pre-teen sensibilities and is slightly childish. But healthy adulthood requires a nice dose of the childish from time to time. Read it, or one of the others in the series, and give your sanity time to recharge.
