Bring it On!

"School Rumble 2" is where the series starts to really pick up. Moving away from the pure physical comedy of the first volume, the one-note characters get fleshed out and start taking on more individual traits. This volume follows the same format of random mini-stories mixed together without a solid plot. All the love matches start squaring off against each other, and a few new sparing partners take to the field. Harima Kenji takes some serious steps towards confessing his love to Tenma, but more than a few things get in his way. Tenma takes the classic route to Ooji's heat, by going through the stomach. She cooks up a plot to make him a lunchbox, and then settle down for a romantic picnic together. Hanai keeps aiming for Tenma's sister Yakumo, and does his able best to catch her eye during an impromptu game of pool hockey. The lovely blonde Eri has her own sorrows, and finds an unexpected source of support in Kenji. Jin Kobayashi keeps threading the twisting plot lines to maximum comic effect. "School Rumble" is an ensemble manga, and each character gets to take their turn in the spotlight, cluelessly pursing their own lost cause of the heart. One of the funniest manga I have read since "Love Hina," the jokes come hard and fast and at everyone's expense.
