Jamie Fraser at Hellwater

If you love to read Diana Gabaldon this book is a must. It is the story of James Alexander Malcolm McKenzie Fraser serving part of his sentence as a Jacobite Traitor after Culloden. His friend and governor of Airdsmuir Prison Lord John Gray finds him a position as a groomsman at beautiful Hellwater. Much conflict ensues as Jamie has a son he cannot acknowledge with one of Lord Dunsany's headstrong but beautiful daughters. I loved reading the Outlander series and this takes another step deeper into what happened to Jamie during his heartbreaking separation from his beloved wife Claire. I'm not sure I'd recommend this as a stand alone novel but I had already read all of The Big 8 books of Outlander and the Lord John Gray series and needed to satisfy the "Droughtlander" period while waiting for books 9 and 10. Definitely not just a frivolous romance novel.

A must read

All I have to say, this book mistake must be read before you pick up Voyager. It fills in a lot of blanks missing in Voyager that will have you scratching your head. The pain and misery Jamie suffers from the loss of Claire and being imprisoned is beyond heartbreaking. This book sets the tone for the rest of the Oitlander series books 3-8. Tear jerker alert, you've been warned😉
