Any with an interest in Cheney or in political maneuvering must read

Yes, Mary Cheney is daughter and top campaign aide to Dick Cheney - so she's in the perfect position to provide an insider's view of presidential politics, as you'd expect from her biography. What is unexpected is a sense of humor throughout, personal details on her childhood and family, and insights on years of TV debates, national politics and campaigning. Any with an interest in Cheney or in political maneuvering must read NOW IT'S MY TURN: A DAUGHTER'S CHRONICLE OF POLITICAL LIFE. Diane C. Donovan California Bookwatch

A Must-Read!

Mary Cheney's "Now It's My Turn" is one of the most enjoyable books that I have read in a long time. Ms. Cheney is a very talented, intelligent woman who truly has a gift for storytelling. Many of the anecdotes that she relates made me laugh out loud. But what stands out most in this book is her love and devotion to her family, especially her dad. Vice President Cheney has been dubbed a black knight by most of the main stream, liberal media in this country (surprise, surprise!), but Ms. Cheney portrays him as a loving husband, father and grandfather who came from modest beginnings and succeeded because of his intelligence and ethics. Whatever your political beliefs are, I highly recommend this well-written and humorous book.

A Daughter's Chronicle of Political Life

This is what the title says it is, "...a chronicle of political life". This is NOT an autobiography (hence no tales of the author's experiences with former employers...) What you will find here are tales from the two most recent presidential campaigns as well a some early congressional campaigns, told in a way that only the daughter can. You will also read about her close relationships with her family and enjoy hilarious stories from the road, from bed bugs to blue goo. You will enjoy some of the less than glamorous situations encountered during a campaign. In the debate chapters, (the ones that seem to have generated the most news) you will see that not only did the Cheneys and their supporters think the mention of Mary Cheney's sexuality was a "Cheap and Tawdry Political Trick" but just as importantly, how offensive it was that both Kerry and Edwards presumed that they could speak for Mary Cheney or her parents. You will enjoy this book if you would like a behind the scenes look at the world of presidential politics. You will see a unique perspective on two of the closest and strangest presidential elections in history. If you enjoy heartwarming, funny, and candid family stories you will appreciate the strong relationships in this previously very private family.

Funny Book for Political Junkies

[...] This book is really funny and is an interesting story about a young woman growing up in the cut-throat world of politics. Mary has a sense of humor as she tells the stories of her life during the 2004 presidential campaign. The behind the scenes stories are so clever and offer great insight into the roller coaster ride of a campaign. It shows that a powerful political family like the Cheney's can be normal family and are just like everyone else. Who knew VP Cheney aka - the so-called Darth Vador - could be such a loving Dad?!?!? This is not a book about being gay, it is a book about standing by your family and your convictions. [...]

Good book but from all the hype thought there would be more about being gay

I expected more about what it is like to be gay in her family and in the republican party. That's what they're promoting but that's not this book. That said, for what it is "... a daughter's chronicle of political life..." it makes an interesting, funny at times and insightful read.
