A FRESH LOOK AT JESUS

I've been a Christian as long as I can remember, raised in the church and serious about my faith. But this book helped me see Jesus in a whole new light. The author brings out the human side of Jesus without diminishing him in any way. Instead, he helped me see that Christ and I and are partners in building my life into something enduring and worthwhile. I always assumed it was a fluke of history that Jesus was a carpenter. Now I see that he is a carpenter in every sense: a builder, a renovator, and repairer, and a spiritual architect. Read this book! It may change your life.

A transforming work

Michael Brewer's work is vital for all who are interested in spiritual transformation. The metaphor of carpentry creates a powerful yet open and welcoming context for understanding important aspects of a transforming discipleship. Although it would seem to be primarily a book for men and women who work with their hands, the blend of scholarship and brief, insightful narrative gives this work widespread appeal. This is especially worth noting with its context in mind. It's great strength, I think, is that it creates an approachable environment in which to contemplate the realities of spiritual transformation. No matter what a reader does for a living, the "Lessons from the Carpenter" speak deeply, simply, clearly about the power of God's work in our lives. I treasure my copy of this work, as I do Brewer's "Superhero" treatise, and I'm thankful for his ministry. "Lessons" helps us all see how to live and work in the Kingdom of God.

Satisfying for the spiritual appetite!!

What a wonderfully written book!! This writer introduces us to Jesus the Carpenter and leads us to the many ways Jesus shapes and repairs our lives. Brewer combines his keen eye for carpentry and his heartfelt love for Jesus--words that most definitely "go with the grain" in our every day lives as well. You won't be disappointed with this book--the words inside are just as beautiful as its cover!!
