Knopf Guides: London, Great Britain

Very detailed and complete guide book for the London area. Also gives rich review of London's incredible history. Covers all the major and minor areas of the city, the architecture of the area, and just about everything you could possibly hope to see in your time there. Very much well worth the investment.

A travel must!

These books are great to carry in your purse while traveling. The maps are indispensible. I bought a book for each city we visited in Europe. We walked everywhere and never got lost. Made planning our days easier.

I love this series!

My husband and I are stationed in Italy for two years and we're make the most of the travel opportunities. I bought a bunch of the Knopf CityGuides for cities we were likely to visit and we love them. A full city map on the inside cover is divided up into 5-8, then each section is further mapped on a fold-out map made of heavy cardstock. The section maps are big and easy to read, and are marked with the most important sites in that area. Each site is briefly described with opening times and cost at the bottom. On the other side of each map is a list for that section of town of recommended restaurants, bars/music venues, and shopping sites in a few price ranges. I *love* these recommendations; they take you to non-touristy, excellent restaurants and stores. The back inside cover includes subway maps and critical getting around information. What is unique about these guides is that no matter which part of town you find yourself in, you can quickly identify something nearby to see, eat, buy, or enjoy.

EXCELLENT for the city of London

I just returned from a week stay in London and two books made the trip complete - this LONDON citymap guide and Lonely Planets guide to London. We were there to sitesee and all we needed was Lonely Planet to decide where to go (includes the TUBE stops as well) and for resturants and other out of the way location, we found every street we needed with this fold out guide. It is compact but study enough to place in your pocket and then folds out to an easy read format. I received about 4 other books from friends and none compared to these two guides. Save your money - you'll be all set with these two!

An Architect's Perspective

During my recent visit to London, this book guided me through all the historical and modern architectural sites with accurate detailed information. I wish the author published a millennium issue of it.
