What a difference the right book makes!

My 6 year old daughter has been a reluctant reader. Every night when we sit down to read with her, she gets frustrated and refuses to go further. Reading had become homework, and it was a struggle. I had tried going back to basic starter books, but they didn't hold her interest, so I tried more age appropriate reading books, and she would just get upset and clam up. Then we came across Ivy & Bean. First of all, there are pictures on nearly every page, which makes a huge difference at this age. She loves the pictures and they offer her an incentive to read to the next page. Secondly, being a first grader who just started at a new school, she identified right away with the challenges of making a new friend. Before I knew it, she was reading this on her own. As in, I would walk in and she would be reading it to herself. This is an absolute first for her, and seems to hold just the right mix to get her interested in reading. My next stop is to order the next book!

break the fossil record

I think the ivy and bean series is the best book for people around my age which is 7 to 10. but in this series ivy and bean break the fossil record is the best. I liked this book because i could relate to this book because i have always wanted to break a world record. This book was about two girls ivy and bean sitting in class at reading time but keep talking when the teacher gave her a world record book thats when they decide to break a record.this is a must read book read it please!

Ivy and Bean is the best!

I am seven years old and I love Ivy and Bean! It is funny and easy to read. People say it teaches bad things, but I know better than to do that. It is also like my life because I have older brothers who are eleven and going through a stage. I think you should give Ivy and Bean a try.

"My sister bugs me too."

My seven year old is an avid Ivy & Bean fan. When she picked this book up she was eager to read it but said she couldn't tell me why. After looking at it, I realized it was the sub plot involving a sister and worms. nothing speaks to my child more than sibling frustrations. My daughter is a very capable reader but doesn't really enjoy it so when she finds something she likes I encourage her to read it over again. Ivy and Bean hasn't left her nightstand in weeks. I just bought her the second book and she's been reading it since the parking lot of the store. Excellent for girls too old for Junie B and not interested in Judy Moody.

A 7-year-old book-worm's review!

This book was good because Bean was funny. I liked Ivy because she thought she was magical. My favorite part was when Bean tried to play a trick on her sister. I won't tell you what it was...you'll have to read it yourself.
