Hugh Johnson's Pocket Wine Book 2009 is a terrific wine book to have when you go into a restaurant or wine store anywhere. Wherever you are worldwide, you are prepared, Texas or Australia. For example, Hardys was on al our restaurant menus during business trips to Australia. We learned which vintages of Hardys wines are ready to drink, Hardys wines are from several areas, Hardys is part of the world's largest wine group, and which series of Hardys wines are best. The book tells beginners which wines go well with various dishes such as Beef Stroganoff, and why local wines and local food are a good choice. 10 million copies of Hugh Johnson's pocket wine books have been sold and for good reason.

Wow, what a great little wine guide. Has saved my pallet many times over the past couple of months by steering me towards much better wines. Fun, easy and quick to use. I use it at the wine shop, the grocery store and online. An easy way to meet people in the wine aisle! You may leave the store with more than a bottle of wine and a wedge of cheese!! Cheers!!!

Great resource

I buy this book every year. Fits in my purse, I wouldn't go any where without it. You can research vintages, vineyards, food pairings and more. One can't remember everything. Now one doesn't have to.

I have learned more about the wines of the world in this powerful, yet tidy-sized and easy to navigate encyclopedia, than from any other source. Since I run an event and catering company that holds a wine license and serves a sophisticated clientele, this book is on my desk and within an arms-reach at all times. When I write menus and I'm not sure where to go with the wine, regardless of the varietal or the vintage, I reach for this book. HJ uses a very easy-to-comprehend star system that rates the winemaker or the vinter.
