This book can save your life.

I first read this book in 1979. At that time, in my late 20's, I was more than 50 lbs. overweight, had periodic severe asthma, increasing frequency of severe colds and flu, and was suffering from depression. My first juice fast was 30 days. It is not possible to describe in writing the positive changes that took place in every aspect of my life, physically, mentally and spiritually. I have done extended fasts (1 - 4 wks), many times since then. Dr. Airola's advice is not "dated," as some readers suggest. It is "classic" and "timeless," because fasting is literally the oldest known health practice in recorded history. Jesus Christ both practiced and recommended fasting to his followers as the ultimate spiritual and physical cure. (Recall, that prior to beginning his ministry, he went into the wilderness for 40 days to fast and pray.) Oddly, most animals have much better instincts than "modern" man - when they are sick or injured, they refuse to eat in order to conserve internal energy in order to allow healing. One other thing is very obvious from reading the few negative reviews of this book - in every case, these are people who did not have either the desire or the will to put it to the test. It is much easier to criticize something you know nothing about. Common sense should tell us that drugs and surgery are not the answer to problems created by a modern lifestyle which has brought upon us many "civilized" diseases - cancer, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, mental disorders, schizophrenia - to name just a few. There are few books that literally have the power to save a person's life, but, this is truly one of them.

I went from size 22 to size 12!

Dr. Airola has given superb step-by-step instructions for successful juice fasting. I use this book as my juicing manual, each time I juice fast I consult this book. Formerly a size 22, I now wear a size 12 and am almost in a size 10. Keeping my sights on my ultimate weight and health goals, and following Dr. Airola's very clear instructions have made this sickly, over-weight, tired mother of 4 small children into an energetic, healthy mother who enjoys every new day. I highly recommend this book to everyone who is searching for a "new body" to spend the rest of your life enjoying.

I just finished a 10 day fast, with 4 day recovery strictly following Dr. Airola's program. I am a mother of 2 teenagers and just graduated from college as a re-entry student after 20 years away. My health had deteriorated due to time demands and unhealthful eating. On this fast I have not only lost 16 pounds, my skin has cleared up, my energy level is higher, I am walking 5-6 miles a day and my flexibility is better than when I was 20! My entire family is drinking fresh juice everyday and benefitting from a mom who has recovered her health after 7 years as a student!!! Dr. Airola gives simple and complete information for a very successful fasting experience.

This book is the most worn-looking on my book shelf.

I bought my first copy of this fabulous book 20 years ago. Since then I have purchased dozens for friends and shared mine with many people. As a RN, I was very skeptical about the saftey of fasting and bought the first copy to be able to discredit the information with my medical knowledge. I became intreged and tried my first fast, knowing the author was wrong and that by the second day I would collapse to the floor with weakness. Instead, it was the first of many fasts, each making me feel fantastic, ultra energetic and just happy & healthy. There really are no words to describe that "whole" feeling.

A must read for anyone embarking on a healthy lifestyle.

I first read this book in January 1999. After reading it, I began a 14 day juice fast and lost quite a bit of weight. During the month of February and March I did a series of shorter fasts (5 days and 4 days). I finally got rid of 20+ pounds. I have found that fasting as a lifestyle gets easier with each fast. With this book, I am in control of my body's health. I have read other books on fasting, but this one is the best!
