Book Overview

In David Sedaris's world, no one is safe and no cow is sacred. Sedaris's collection of essays and stories is a rollicking tour through the national Zeitgeist: a do-it-yourself suburban dad saves money... This description may be from another edition of this product.

Not for everyone

I purchased this book because I have always been a fan of David and Amy S. This book is much too risque for me. I could not even finish reading some of the stories. The Christmas Elf story at the end was very humerus. If you purchase, do so with caution. It is very raw in parts and disturbing in others.

Be careful

Listen with care. This has to be the best comedy CD I ever bought. I suggest you do not listen to it in the car, for you might get pulled over and asked to blow on a breathalizer. This cd is well worth the money and more. Especially when he talks about him and Mike Tyson. :-)

What a twisted character!

I had to give this a 5 star review because Sedaris makes me laugh out loud. Everyone will think you're a nut while you're reading this because you will be unable to stifle your snickers. His character is so twisted that I can't believe he's talking about himself! I refuse to swallow that those stories are even half-way true. Not all of the stories are funny but there are plenty of laughs in this book. I'll read anything he wants to write!

Makes One Wish For Misery!

No one writes quite like David Sedaris. This collection of stories and essays reaches new highs/lows in comedy so caustically humorous, that guilty pleasures become real. Revel in his memoir of his love affairs and fights amongst the rich and famous such as Charlton Heston, Pat Buchanan, Chuck Connors and his ultimate love, Mike Tyson. Listen in on Sedaris' account of living with his aunt and hearing all of his Mother and her sister's sordid stories. Nothing smacks of hilarious hypocrisy more than Sedaris telling his freind Gill he that he drinks too much while he cannot understand why using the vacumn cleaner as a pillow unintentially is wrong. If you have ever known a smoker, "Diary Of A Smoker" will have you licking ashtrays to stop from laughing. Of course, Sedaris chooses his most famous story, "The SantaLand Diaries" for last. This is the ultimate barometer for true magic in the commercialized Christmas world we all have to endure. Barrel Fever is worth it just for this one essay!

Funny funny funny

Barrel Fever is a pure delight and one of the few books I read again and again. It's darly humorous and wonderful. If you buy one book this summer, buy this one.

Nuggets of hilarity from the twisted mind of David Sedaris.

Sidesplittingly hilarious--I've bought this book for at least 10 friends just to see them try (in vain) to hold back the belly laughs.
