Book Overview

Flagon and Galloway Sackett were just looking for a place to start ranching. They found a big, wide, lonely country and, at first, plenty of room. Then Bull Dunn and his two sons decided they wanted it all. When the battle for possession of the land began, Flagon was already in bad shape. He had been taken by Apache Indians, and by the time he escaped, just surviving left him in no condition for any kind of trouble. Bull Dunn's son, Curly, was determined...

The best!

This is one of the best L'Amour fictions. The highlight is the dog/wolf in the story and shows that a real man can still have a heart. This is one for the ages. I've read 95% of his stuff and this is one of the top.

Loved it

This is a great book - so happy i randomly picked this up and started reading. It immediately draws you in, and really never stops. A fantastic tale of the old west, about the Sacket Family. I was up at my grandparents farm in upstate NY, and looking at some old books, picked this one up and just dug in. It really hit the spot - just the type of story i was looking for! Pure enjoyment. Can't wait to read more. Anyone have any suggestions?

Little know Sackett

Another good Sackett story, with a teaser ending that was never quite finished out in the remainder of the series (L'Amour passed away before writing all in this series that he wanted to). If you want to read about some of the toughest and most admirable Americans, please read these books!

Two Sackett brothers start a ranch

"Galloway," by Louis L'Amour, is part of the Sacketts series and takes place circa 1875-1879. Read alone or as part of the series, the reader will have plenty of action, suspense, and adventure. Sacketts don't hunt for trouble, but when it comes they don't shy away from it.Flagan Sackett manages to escape from being captured by the Indians, but without weapons and clothing, the task is a challenge for survival. Flagan and Galloway Sackett intend on starting a ranch, but the Dunns don't like the idea because they think they own all the land in the whole area and they don't like others coming in. The Dunns have pushed and scared others away in the past and they think they can do the same to the two Sackett brothers. They were wrong, as Sacketts from around the area all show up to help, as if fighting one is like fighting them all.Although the book is called "Galloway," Flagon Sackett takes more of a leading role and narrates most of the story. The story switches back and forth, from being told by Flagon to a general narrator.

the book was very suspenseful, and full of acttion.

one of the lessons that this book taught me was that if you work hard that you will always sucseed .i also learned that if one desires somehting like flagan sackett did [the piece of land], that one will usually get it.another lesson that the book teaches is that hard work pays off, and that never giving up pays off.
