An interesting read

This book covers two main supplements, Iodine and apple cider vinegar. Dr. Jarvis, through anecdotes, explains how each helps the body function better. A nice and different explanation which complements Dr. Brownstein's iodine conclusions.

Folk Medicine

For those interested in Folk Remedies, this is one of the few books I've read that go into detail on the tests the author has personally performed to determine if the remedies work or not. The book centers around the use of Apple Cider Vinegar, although from the title and table of context you wouldn't know it. I've tried out some of the applications for apple cider vinegar and honey and found them to work just as the author said they would. I got more useful information from this book published in 1966 than any book on folk remedies I've read that were published after that date. The only rival for useful information would be online at [...].

Folk Medicine review

Incredibily important book on natural medicine that has been practiced in Vermont for some hundreds of years. Definitely a scientific basis as presented by the country doctor that practiced among the Vermonters. He did very convincing studies proving most of the tenets of this system. It has to do with humans and animals.

excellent!!

I thought that this book was going to cover all kinds of herbal medicine. It turned out that it covered just 3 natural products, which were apple cider vinegar, honey, and kelp. It turns out that if you just add these to your diet that you will be healthy.Dr Jarvis started experimenting using these ingredients on cattle and horses. The animals has such excellent results that he started using them on his patients. They also had excellent results. He includes a lot of research information from other sources. He has a nice comfortable writing style. I loved it.

Second Generation Reader and User

My mother used many of Dr. Jarvis' remedies with me when I was a child. They worked. We also used traditional medicine of course, but often came back to the folk remedies when the medical remedies didn't work or the doctors had no answer. In turn I used these remedies with my own family--and now with clients who come for help with holistic approaches to healing. I recommend the book to people who are well and want to stay that way, and to those who are ill, have no insurance, and no money for high priced drugs, even if they had the money to go to doctors. No, these remedies will not--and should not--replace western medical care in serious situations, but they will definitely help reduce the number of doctor's visits for non-critical illnesses. I recommend Dr. Jarvis' book because I have forty years of successful experiences with it. He was way ahead of his time.

vermont folk medicine--vinegar & honey

I used Dr. Jarvis honey & vinegar for arthritis in l974. Then my finger joints were constantly sore. I've had no problem since. It also took care of constant indigestion problem. He says by adding this acid(vinegar) keeps our body slightly acid prevents many illnesses ie colds etc. I believe it. Indigestion is caused by the stomach not being acid enough. Only when it is acid enough will the empty valve open to empty the stomach.I have more recently gotten a lot of benefit fromusing kelp from his recommendation. Open heart surgery a year ago left me energy-less. Four weeks of kelp was like going around the corner. The shortage of iodine seems to be the key. e-mail texasjackreed@Bluebonnet.net
