If you enjoyed Janisse Ray's best-known work, "Ecology of a Cracker Childhood," you will enjoy "Pinhook: Finding Wholeness in a Fragmented Land." "Pinhook" is an extension of "Ecology of a Cracker Childhood," with an increased focus on ecology. Ray writes about what she knows. She knows and cares about this landscape. Her gentle, thoughtful style will guide you in helping to understand and appreciate this landscape too.

Janisse Ray has now written two marvelous books about the natural world, our impact on it, and its on us. She writes in an engaging low-key style that draws you into her experiences. "Ecology of a Cracker Childhood" is about growing up in rural Georgia, and about longleaf pine forests. "Pinhook" talks about the wilderness being preserved by the creation of the Pogo wilderness area (Okeefenokee, Pinhook, Osceola). Light, easy, and long-lasting in its impact.
