This was the first series/book I read by Nora Roberts. I will tell you that from the moment this I was hooked! I even got my daughter and husband to read the series! The book may be a little flowery, but it's her scenery that breathes air into this book (and all her others!). Okay, it's whimsy. But I absolute love it!

Fabulous!

I can't say enough about this series of books and this first one is a fabulous start to the other two. One thing about Nora Roberts that I have appreciated is that she obviously works to make sure her heroines do not react to things in the same way as each other. Other series writers have fallen into the trap and don't realize that their characters begin to all sound like the same person after awhile. NOT with Ms. Roberts' books. Once she establishes the personality and character of a heroine, even when they are closely involved in the lives of the other two...and of course share some commonalities due to being either actual sisters or "sisters of the heart"...you never lose track of which woman this story is about. I highly recommend "Dance Upon the Air" as a great start to a trilogy of outstanding books as well as one where a woman searches for and regains her own power...and finds her way.

A Wonderful Story!

This book has got to be my favorite story by Nora Roberts, yet! Just the right mix of suspense, romance and intrigue. 'My Favorite Book!' DEFINATELY!!!

Pure Magic

Nora Roberts' books that involve both romance and magic are always my favourites. "Dance Upon the Air" is no exception. I can hardly wait to get my hands on the second in the series ("Heaven and Earth"). I read "Dance" in one sitting--that says a lot. Her characters are well drawn and the story is fantastic. Nell's plight--running from an abusive husband and building a new life for herself--blends seamlessly with Nell's discovery of her hidden legacy--witchcraft. Under Mia's guiding hand and Ripley's grudging assistance, Nell blooms and rediscovers herself--and rediscovers the joys of loving. I highly recommend this book--as I do all of Nora Roberts' books. If you like the combination of love and casting spells, I advise you to read "The Donovan Legacy," a 3-in-1 book about three hereditary witches and their loves.

Very enjoyable

I really liked this book. Nora has really created a strong female character, one that I think is much more stronger than her previous heroines with abused pasts (except for Eve Dallas). Nell gets away from her abusive husband by faking her own death and is drawn to Three Sisters Island. We find out she is actually a descendant of the original three witches that created the island, and her coming there completes the circle. On the island, she grows and is able to become close with people and form relationships. She is able to assert herself and get a job with the local "practical" witch, and later on she starts her own business. The romantic relationship with the town sheriff is nice, but her realtionship with her sister witches is even more interesting. One is the practical witch Mia Devlin, who was hurt by love; the other is the sheriff's sister, Ripley Todd, who has turned away from her powers. I really enjoyed this book, and finished it in one day. It's a nice break from Nora's recent mysteries, with the surprise twist of who the killer is. this is a story of growth and renewal and I *cannot* wait for the next two books in the series.

A worthy start to a new trilogy

While I own every single book written by Nora Roberts, I have to say that I usually enjoy her paperback novels better than the hardcover books (Not that it stops me from buying every one of them!).This particular novel tells the story of Nell, a woman fleeing from an abusive husband to a fictitous island off the coast of Massachusetts, Three Sisters. There she finds her first real feeling of home, friends that she has a mystical bond with and a handsome sheriff who is her soulmate. The novel nicely blends the charm of a small town and the mystical events that we expect from Nora Roberts. It also is effective at setting up the two upcoming novels that will complete the trilogy. Packed with likeable characters and well paced, the novel is worthy of her "Born in" series.I really loved this book. It was a surprising and satisfying read that kept me turing pages long into the night. I recommend it highly.
