Decorations to blow your skirt up!

This is a cupcake book fm the UK, so some of the ingredients or styles or word usage may be...not what Americans are used to. Also it asks for "self-rising" flour. I tried just a frosting with another fav vanilla cupcakes recipe from somewhere else, and had to add to it cause it had no "oomph" to it -- mostly just plain ol' confectioners sugar (though they call it "icing sugar"), and water, food coloring.. The reason I DID get this book was for the IDEAS in it, and that's why it gets 4 stars fm me. The photos are A-MAZING, thank you Deirdre Rooney! They are off the charts, elegant and colorful. For instance, in the very beginning, there is a picture of a whisk, up close with a very light blue frosting on it, and a rose pink background. The handle of the whisk is blurred and all you see is the light blue frosting layered over the metal whisk. You have to see it: STUNNING. And that's just one, of many many colorful eye feasts... There are no big, piled high with frosting cupcakes with faces and animals and all kinds of junk and bluster on them, but instead elegant and delectable and sophisticated looking cupcakes. ADULT CUPCAKES. The decorations she used grabbed me by the seat of my pants: I had never seen edible non-toxic teeny glitter before this. After some searching, I did find a source on the web. My gosh! If you go outside with that on a cupcake, it explodes with flashing light! It's CRAZY. It'll knock everyone's socks off. Also the "sugar flakes", which are these flat, clearish, colorful, thin flakes (non-crunchy like sugar crystals, icky), that melt in your mouth, and add such intriguing texture and show to the cupcake...(like the chocolate/chocolate cupcake pic with brilliant sky blue flakes on it - looks like art, my peeps!) And yes, folks, there IS a pic for each cupcake. Praise be. The sections go as follows: Equipment & Ingredients What Went Wrong? Decorations And then the recipes, which includes "teatime cupcakes", nice and classy for your lady friends. Wonderful presentations for the hostess with the mostess. :) Highly recommended for the ideas and the photography.
