The Start of a Great Series

There are many different kinds of Fantasy series, but few you can really get into. I'm proud to say that Avalon: Web of Magic is one of them. The whole series is about these three girls (Adrienne the dark and mysterious Warrior, Emily the kind and helpful Healer, and Kara, the popular and bratty Blazing Star) have to find the home of all the magic, Avalon, before the Dark Sorceress gets to it. There are many details but I don't want to fill up the whole page. In this particular book, Emily and Adrienne find out about the magic, and have to save the magical Phel and find out what's causing all the animal attacks. You can really relate to the characters, and almost all are likeable. Most people, I think, will like Adrienne the best, although Emily is also a popular character. Heck, even Kara grows on you.All in all, this series is wonderful. Some people might not read it because it says ages 9-12, but that doesn't mean other age groups (like me) won't like it. Hopefully, Avalon will score big one day, and if it doesn't, it deserves to.

Greatest Series Ever!

This book was awesome! Like some others, I thought Harry Potter was the best, untill I read this book. It is a wonderful story that shows friendship, adventure, suspense, and magic. Emily just moved to Stonehill and is shy and kind, but doesn't have any friends. Adrienne is the loner and independent one and travels a lot( Her parents are artists). Kara is the snobby, spoiled, and popular one. They have almost nothing in common, except magic. The story's plot is when a monster from another world comes to earth and poisons all the magical animals who live there. Emily has healing powers and has to help them with the help of Phel, a wonderful and magical creature. Emily, Adrienne, and Kara have to put away their diferences and work together to fight the monster with some help from the magical animals and Ozzie, an adventerous elf who is stuck in a ferrets' body. A fantastic book for all ages.

A FLUENT, COMPELLING READING

With motion picture appearances, two platinum solo albums, and being dubbed one of Teen People's "25 Hottest Stars Under 25," you'd think 17-year-old Mandy Moore didn't have many more mountains to climb. Well, she just scaled another with her fluent, compelling reading of this fantasy adventure. Three girls, not the least bit alike, are all drawn to a secret place deep in the woods. First, there is Emily whose parents have divorced prompting a move for Emily and her Mom form home in Colorado to a small town in Pennsylvania. New school, new kids, new everything. Yuck! Her Mom is a vet and Emily enjoys helping in the animal hospital. Then one day a badly burned animal that resembles a cat is brought in. Emily is afraid because she has never seen an animal so dreadfully injured nor has she ever seen an animal that looked like this. Most astounding of all: she believes the animal spoke. Puzzled and uncertain, Emily goes to the wildlife preserve where the animal was found in the hope of finding some answers. Once there she finds astounding animals, all peaceful but searching. She also meets Ariadne who is shunned by the other kids because she lives in the preserve with her grandmother and is considered strange. The two girls join forces, determined to help these beautiful creatures. However, an unknown evil follows the pair. And, they discover they have been selected to be rescuers, that three girls are intended to save the animals. Who can the other girls be? Listen for a host of surprises. - Gail Cooke

high praise from a parent

My eight-year-old was beside herself. When I asked what she was reading, she showed me this book. Then we read a few pages together and before I knew it, we shared the whole book. The experience was magical. We loved it. We read to each other and to the dog. Yup, even our dog loved it. The story works on many levels, mostly just fun and dramatic (like a good Disney movie), but it also deals with some key issues of moral behavior and making your dreams come true, all of which inspired my daughter to think about what she can accomplish in her own life. She can't wait for the second book and neither can I.

A lot of fun
