Total life saver for my preemie!

I am the mother to a child who was born at 24 weeks gestation. Getting her to eat was a challenge from the get go as she was fed by a feeding tube util she was 44 weeks old and had a host of issues with feeding due to severe acid reflux. Once we started solids it was torture. My daughter hated solids and didnt like to be spoon fed after two weeks of trying. I got this book amongst several other popular books because I was desperate, this one made the most sense. I started the concepts, and we had a slow start. But I am happy to report my daughter no longer gags, loves to eat her solids and she is only 12 months old adjusted as we speak. She pretty much skipped purees, and went right to real people food using the concepts in this book. Within a few months she was eating chicken off a bone. I highly recommned this book as a way to introduce solids wether you have a term child or a preemie. If it wasnt for this book my daughter would have been very delayed in all her eating. Now she eats like a champ! I am eternally grateful to the authors.

Baby-led Solids should be the real title

Great book. First off this is not a weaning off the breast book, it is an introduction to solids book. I exclusively breastfed my daughter for 8mos and when I was ready to introduce solids, she wasn't. She was more interested in feeding herself and wouldn't let me spoon feed her. Turns out that was great for me. I spoon fed my boys at 4 and 5 mos old and it was very time consuming and I wasn't sure if they were full or fussy when they'd refuse to eat. This book eliminates the struggle. Babies have a sensitive gag reflex and by using this book I was able to let my baby take the lead on feeding herself while not overreacting at any sound she made while eating. Also it gives a great guideline of how much and when to feed them solids that correlates with breastfeeding and formula feeding. If your little one has issues with spoon feeding or heck even if they don't, this is a great book for beginner feeders. I wish I had this with my boys.

Incredibly Helpful

This book does not contain recipes but that's the whole point! Baby-led weaning is all about giving your baby straight up whole food. All you need to do is get a vegetable or piece of fruit, chop it into fingers, steam/bake/roast it and hand it over to your very eager baby. Simple! What this book does offer is advice on what foods are best to start with, when to start, what foods to avoid and how to encourage your baby to explore. I have found this book incredibly helpful in getting me [and my parents!] to relax, stand back and just let my 6 month old get on with it. She's now tucking into steamed zucchini sticks, roasted sweet potato wedges, peach slices, steamed string beans, roasted firm tofu, steamed brocolli florets....and it's all just so amazing to watch! I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to give their child a positive introduction to food. Eating should be fun, not a chore.

Love this book!

Very well written. Makes it all seem like "common sense" once it a concept has been introduced by the author. We started giving baby finger foods (pasta, banana) at 6 months not realizing there was a name for it. I ordered the book at 8 months to look for new food ideas. Now at 9 months, baby will nibble on most any food we put in front of him (and many non-food items as well). When we go out for sushi, baby will eat an avocado roll. When we go out for dim sum, baby will eat turnip cake and noodles. The only suggestion in here that really didn't work for us was giving baby slices of firm avocado (gets super squishy after a few minutes and slides right out of his hands). Highly recommend this book.

Baby Led Weaning is the best!!

I had never heard of feeding finger foods to a 6 month old before I discovered Baby-led weaning. This stuff is AWESOME! The book is pretty thorough, though, like a PP said, doesn't have recipes and also doesn't talk about spacing introductions... I'd say talk to your doctor about allergies, but choose the form of foods yourself! Using Baby-led weaning, my daughter was eating a huge piece of steak at 8 months with no issues! People are always amazed at what she eats!
