Perfect book for the uninitiated

I picked up this book about 10 years ago. At the time I had about as much knowledge of astrology as you can get from the newspaper i.e. none. It is chock full of information about just about everything. Particularly useful for students starting out is getting familiar with the houses and the signs as they affect factors in your life, not just your overall personality. It does lack some information on nodes but for a beginner's text, that is just fine. I have continued to study and now am an astrologer. I have a considerable library but I still find I use this book for many different reasons. The organization is great and the concise explanations are a godsend. I cannot say enough how glad I am to have bought this book when beginning my studies.

A Must Have for ANYONE interested in Astrology

What can I say? It's the absolute best, must have book for ANYONE who has even a slight interest in Astrology. I've been an Astrology enthusiast for over 10 years now and even though my level is more in the intermediate to advanced range, I still find this as an invaluable, handy reference. It perfectly "walks" you through this fascinating, yet complex science in a simple and easy to understand format. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to go beyond those fun, yet very general and vague daily horoscopes you find in the paper. It even includes a mail in offer to get your own chart done! (At least my old copy does, not sure about the new edition) This book will help you understand and interpret your chart to give you an enlightening and informative understanding of yourself. It includes chapters that explain and interpret the meanings of all the twelve houses, the signs and their characteristics, the planets and their rulerships, even meanings to all possible aspects of your natal placements. I really wish I had this book when I first developed an in-depth interest in Astrology. Again, A MUST HAVE FOR ANY ASTROLOGY ENTHUSIAST!!!

Good basics book, but...

I would have given this book 3 stars because I felt there were too many pages dedicated to chart construction and not enough on chart interpretation. What little interpretation he offers in this book--a sentence here, a paragraph there, specifically when interpreting his own birthchart--I believe is very good, and would have liked the author to expand on this subject. Besides that, I feel the general descriptions of the planets, signs, houses and aspects are well intuited and researched. And I have to give the author a star back for the many useful charts he includes in the text. Overall, a user-friendly guide for beginners and a quick refresher for intermediate astrologers looking to fill the gaps in their training. My two cents.

Excellent for beginners!

If you've just had your astrology chart done. (which you cando for free on the Astrodienst website) Then this book willhelp you understand what all the planets in various signs andhouses in your chart means and you will find that it most likelydescribes your life and personality. See for yourself. Astrologyis a fun hobby.

This is a great book!

I read this book not to long ago, and it is one of my favorites. It gives you an overall view for astrology and basic interpretations of planets in signs, aspects, houses, ect. I especially reccomend it for beginners.
