great for several reasons

My sons (13 & 11) love these books. Although I used to be against "graphic novels", I'm fine with these. They have learned so much history, geography, and even a little Latin from reading Asterix. We own about 20 of them, and they want them all. My 11 year old insists on calling "France" "Gaul".

Funny

Chief Vitalstatistix is enraged that Caesar considers Belgians the most courageous lot and the Romans have come to treat a post outside the Gaulish village a break from their brutal work regimen. He drags Asterix and Obelix to accompany him to Belgium where he provokes the brave Belgians into accepting a challenge of bashing up the most Romans. This leads Caesar to intervene and declare both parties crazy. Amen, man!

Another classic Asterix!

This is one of the funniest adventures featuring those "Crazy Gauls " Asterix & Obelix involving a minor spat with the tribes of Belgium that involes Julius Caeser by placing the Guals & the Belgian tribes & uniting them to fight against the mighty armies of Rome. Also a classic comic cameo by Thompson & Thompson from Herge's Tin Tin series!

FABULOUS !!! A must read, a must have !!!

Very high quality edition, that such a nice piece of litterature deserves. Delightfull, amazing, funny, lovely. We need more of this kind of humor !

Who Are The Bravest Of The Gauls?

The last story written by Goscinny! Fist written in French in 1979 as Astérix chez les Belges, it was first published in English in 1980.Chief Vitalstatistix is outraged upon hearing that Julius Caesar has referred to the Belgians as the bravest of all the Gaullish peoples, and immediately sets out for Belgium to prove him wrong. At the suggestion of Druid Getafix, Asterix and Obelix accompany him, lest the whole venture come to a `sticky end'.What ensues is compensation between the Belgians and the Armoricans (Asterix and Co) to prove who can bash the most Romans, until Julius Caesar comes to Belgium with his army to intervene. Our friends get to meet a robust and fiery people not unlike themselves, with curvaceous blond ladies, good beer and masses of good food. There is a wonderful adaptation of one of those charming paintings by Dutch master, Pieter Breughel The Elder. The English translation uses to very witty effect, quotes by George Gordon, Lord Byron, William Shakespeare and John Milton.
