Angela Nicholas has hit a "home run" with this tighly edited compilation of great movie scenes! I teach an on-camera acting class, in Studio City, CA and the students love the material! Angela has painstakingly edited these scenes & turned them into balanced gems. From Annie Hall, Pulp Fiction, to Working Girl, the material is so diverse and up to date. What a gift! Other scene study books, bog you down with stale dialogue! The movie scenes chosen by Angela, flow with comedic and dramatic timing. These scenes are brilliantly broken down and an excellent tool for teaching Film & TV acting. Angela has saved me from digging through endlessly boring scene study books. My students are now excited to perform scenes from movies they love. Angela, thank you for taking us to a whole new level! A "must have" book, for serious acting coaches and students! About time for a decent actor's scene book!

Where was this book during my last acting class? Ms. Nichols book is long overdue. The only other scene book I could find was so outdated I felt I needed to wear a zoot suit. This scene book is so great. I took it to my acting class and everyone practically did handstands. Never again will I have to struggle with scene partners who depend on me to find an appropriate scene. Now and forever I can hand them this book (if they already don't have one of their own) and say: "Here are 99 scences to pick from." From one struggeling actor I say, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for providing this wonderful tool to us all. You are the best!

Unique and Much-Needed!

It's amazing someone else didn't think of this before. Ms. Nicholas' book has something for every auditioning actor, regardless of age, gender or type. It is bound to be an essential resource for any actor who wants to bring some "freshness" to the audition process, and set him/herself apart from others who are limited by the Classical Canon. Buy it now!!

An important resource for actors

While there are dozens of "scene study" books out there for theater, this book by Angela Nicholas fills the void for film - and it is a must-have for any actor or actress seriously seeking to study the craft of their profession. The scenes themselves represent films that can be rented relatively easy, and this makes for a great comparison study of how the screenplay "works" - compared to your own efforts. (Or, sometimes, how the soundtrack or lighting or other film tricks make awkward writing look good.) Separate from that, it is fun to browse through the scenes and see how they were brought to life on-screen.

Finally a scene book with RECENT classics,

including scenes from Pulp Fiction, Swingers, Grifters, Chasing Amy, Clerks, The Crying Game, Annie Hall, Bullets Over Broadway, Lone Star, Moonstruck, Waiting to Exhale, The Player, Thelma and Louise, Strictly Ballroom, Raising Arizona, Do the Right Thing, Broadcast News, and just about every other great flick made recently. The intros which precede each scene are chock full o' useful info. The only thing I don't get is why the title says it's "for actors." I think it's just as useful for screenwriters like myself, because it brings together so many examples of great dialogue writing in a single, well-organized and attractive book.
