  Brain Theory

The author relates many aspects of the brain in
operation. These aren't noticeable during the
conduct of our daily lives. For instance, the
act of laughing reduces blood pressure.
Reducing information overload helps us process
what we hear more efficiently.

The brain has multiple modes of operation which
help us to do the following:

o linguistics
o mathematics (compilation and spatial )
o music
o body kinesthetics i.e. dancing
o inter-personal relationships
o spiritual
o the intra-personal self
o the naturalist

We should protect the brain at every opportunity
by doing the following:
o avoid toxins of all kinds
o wearing seat belts in cars
o protective headgear
o utilize ladders to mitigate falls
o be careful taking the stairs up or down
o utilize hand rails

Certain activities enhance brain function; namely,
o cross crawling
o touch the right hand to the left knee
o touch the left hand to the right knee
o doing puzzles and analytics

At age 75, an active brain still has the neurons
as at age 25 or younger. The author recommends to
fasten a rubber band to the wrist to remember to
change a behavior pattern like over-drinking.
Tapping various parts of the body may provide an
emotional release. The volume describes the
various parts of the brain in actual functioning.
For instance, the cerebral cortex is the area
where thinking takes place.

This work is a gold mine for persons seeking to
learn more about the functioning of the brain
and the benefits of activity and daily exercise.

Considering the brain, and being good to it and to oneself

Sondra Kornblatt writes and informative, important and accessible book inspiring us all to reflect on ourselves, our minds, and the way we often neglect and mistreat the biological miracle of our brains.

I no I hadn't given serious thought about feeding, exercising and caring for my brain in the same way I do my heart and other aspects of my physical self. I'm grateful to Sondra for writing this book -- expressing gratitude from my heart, and my head.

Really...check it out. You won't not think about your brain anymore.

  A Better brain Book

I've just finished A Better Brain at Any Age and am immedicately adding Sondra Kornblatt to the Very Short List of authors who can painlessly entertain and educate me about science, right up there with Asimov, Gould, and Gladwell. I try to keep abreast of the rapidly expanding field of neuro-cognitive research and its application to learning, and Kornblatt's book is the most fun I have had doing so in some time. Because of my familiarity with the drier pedantic research, I can see that the underpinnings of her brief blurbs are scientifically sound and current. This is a good read at any time, but a great morning bus read to wake up your brain and inspire you to treat it and use it well throughout the day!
