W.E.B. Griffin, born William Edmund Butterworth III in 1929, has written more than fifty bestselling novels published under his Griffin pen name as well as dozens of other books under 13 additional pseudonyms. He grew up in the Northeast. After completing active duty military service, he attended Philipps-Universitat Marburg but left college when he was called back to serve in the Korean War. At the end of the war, he continued to work for the military as a civilian until he published his first three novels. Griffin has received the Brigadier General Robert L. Dening Memorial Distinguished Service Award of the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars News Media Award. He currently divides his time between Buenos Aires and the Gulf Coast.
