Author of fantasy fiction Terence Dean "Terry" Brooks has written nearly two dozen New York Times bestsellers, with over twenty million copies of his books in print. He has also created two movie novelizations. Born in 1944 and raised in a rural Illinois town, Brooks graduated from Hamilton College with a B.A. in English literature and later earned a J.D. from Washington and Lee University. His debut novel, The Sword of Shannara, was published in 1977 and became the first fictional work to appear on the New York Times trade paperback bestseller list. Once a practicing attorney who wrote his books at night, Brooks is a full-time author and divides his time between Seattle, Washington and Hawaii.
