Nevada Barr Profile Picture

Born in a small Nevada town in 1952, bestselling novelist Nevada Barr was named for a favorite fictional character of her father's rather than her home state. She grew up in California, and completed her B.A. and M.F.A. in drama at the University of California, Irvine. Barr worked for nearly twenty years in commercials, on stage, in films, and doing radio voice-overs. She began working in National Parks over the summers. While pursuing both these careers, Barr was also writing, storytelling, and working as a travel writer and restaurant critic. Her first novel was published in 1983 and she started her Anna Pigeon mystery series with Track of the Cat in 1993. It won the Agatha and Anthony awards for best first mystery. Barr has continued to write Anna Pigeon mysteries as well as other stories, novels, and articles. She lives in New Orleans.
